Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux Season Kicks Off at Spa-Francorchamps with Alex Reimann and Thomas Kangro on the Grid

The legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps will host the opening round of the 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux from 9th–11th May. Representing EST1 Racing, Alex Reimann will be on the starting grid, while fellow Estonian driver Thomas Kangro will compete under the Porsche Estonia banner.

The season opener once again runs as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) weekend in Belgium, offering a world-class setting for one of the most competitive one-make GT series in Europe.

The Porsche Carrera Cup is renowned for its close racing and level playing field, making it a prime proving ground for young GT talents aiming to reach the top of the motorsport ladder. With technical regulations keeping the cars nearly identical, it’s up to the drivers to make the difference on the track.

Alex Reimann:
“At the last race in Portimão two weeks ago, I had everything lined up for a podium finish. I’ve got the speed and confidence, but as we all know—motorsport can be unpredictable. Now we’re in a new series, and at some point this season, I’ll also have the chance to go head-to-head with Kalle Rovanperä.”

Indeed, reigning World Rally Champion Kalle Rovanperä is confirmed to contest at four of the six Carrera Cup Benelux rounds this season. Although he won’t be racing in Spa, excitement is already building up for his eventual arrival.

Raimo Kulli, Team Principal of EST1 Racing, added:
“Yes, it’s true—Kalle will be joining the grid for part of the season. But knowing Alex, there won’t be any fear or hesitation from his side. I’m sure he won’t be giving Kalle any extra space on the track either. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Right now, we’ve got strong momentum, the team spirit is excellent, and the cars are race-ready.”

With 22 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars set to battle it out in the Belgian Ardennes, fans can expect thrilling racing—not just once, but across two 30-minute sprint races plus one formation lap each.
