This weekend, Alex Reimann will make history as the first Estonian driver to compete in the prestigious Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, taking place in Spain. The Supercup represents the top tier of the Porsche Carrera Cup series and has been held as part of selected Formula 1 weekends since 1993 .
This time, the pinnacle of Porsche one-make racing coincides with the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix weekend, set on the technically demanding Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Fresh off a podium finish at the Spa-Francorchamps round of the GT Open Europe series, Reimann now steps up to an even higher level of international competition. However, it’s not only the level of rivalry that intensifies—so does the structure of the race weekend itself.
“Supercup is unique in that there’s no room for mistakes: there’s just one free practice, one qualifying session, and one race. This demands flawless preparation from both the car and the driver,” explains Raimo Kulli, Team Principal of EST1 Racing, when comparing the Supercup format to the Carrera Cup France and Benelux championships, which currently form the core of Reimann’s racing focus.
The Porsche Supercup has long been a hallmark of elite circuit racing, serving as a springboard for numerous top-tier drivers around the world. As an official part of the Formula 1 weekend, the series is closely followed not only by large audiences but also by manufacturers and factory teams.
“We believe in Alex’s potential and are confident that this weekend will provide him with invaluable experience and a strong foundation for future steps in top-level international competition,” Kulli emphasises.
Reimann’s historic debut is made possible through the collaboration between EST1 Racing and Proton Huber Competition .
