Alex Reimann’s Historic Porsche Supercup Debut: “I Found a Good Rhythm and I’m Pleased with My Performance”

This past Sunday marked a major milestone for Estonian motorsport. EST1 Racing’s very own Alex Reimann made his debut in the prestigious Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup series, becoming the first Estonian ever to start a race in this elite championship!

Held in support of the Formula 1 World Championship, the Porsche Supercup is classified as the pinnacle of international one-make GT racing. As it’s considered top tier above other various Porsche Carrera Cup series, bringing together the very best drivers and teams from around the world.

Reimann’s debut took place during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where he finished a strong 17th. Had he been registered in the official Rookie classification for drivers competing in their first full season, his performance would have earned him fourth place among the debutants.

Unlike the Carrera Cup Benelux and France series in which Alex is also competing this season, the Supercup format is extremely compact and demanding. As it requires one practice session, one qualifying session and a single race, with no room for mistakes as delivering results requires quick adaptation and sharp focus from the very first lap.

Starting 19th on the grid, Alex moved up two positions during the race, overtaking several seasoned competitors. He crossed the line in 16th, but a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits was an issue that affected many drivers during the weekend that subsequently, classified him in 17th place at the final results.

“Practice and qualifying were very intense due to the tight format that I had to adapt to quickly,” Alex commented after the race. “But during the race I found a good rhythm and I’m really pleased with what I was able to show. It’s definitely something very positive that I can take away from my Supercup debut.”

EST1 Racing Team Principal Raimo Kulli shared in the positive sentiment, calling Alex’s performance in Spain one of the best of his career to date.

The Supercup debut was made possible through a successful collaboration between EST1 Racing and Proton Huber Competition. Sharing the track with Formula 1 added an extra dimension to the experience, not just in terms of prestige, but also in the technical demands it brought.

“When you have F1, F2, and F3 cars running on Pirelli tyres and Porsche Supercup cars on Michelins, it dramatically changes the grip levels on track. It also requires a different driving style,” explained Kulli, describing the unique challenge of racing alongside motorsport’s top-tier machinery.

There’s little time to rest before the next challenge, as the second round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux takes place this coming weekend at Zandvoort. Armed with valuable Supercup experience, Alex is ready to push forward.
