Alex Reimann, driving for EST1 Racing, secured a hard-fought third-place finish in Race 1 at the second to last round of the GT Cup Open Europe season, held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Reimann’s continued development is underscored by the fact that at the start of the season, he had never competed without an ABS braking system. Now, he was one of the fastest drivers on track, despite being the only competitor in the field without ABS – a significant technical challenge in such a closely matched grid.
As is standard in the GT Cup Open, the weekend featured two standalone races. In Race 1, Reimann started from P4 and mounted an impressive charge in the closing laps. After restarting from sixth place behind the safety car, he delivered a determined late-race push, overtaking two rivals on the final lap to claim third. It was another podium finish in a season where the primary goal has been gaining experience in the GT racing world.
Reimann summed it up confidently:
“No ABS, 85 seconds lost in time and we still brought home a great result. What a race full of action!”
In Race 2, Reimann once again showed strong pace. After a troubled opening lap, he fought back to second place before the pit stop phase. Despite the busy pit lane and reshuffling of positions, he crossed the line in sixth, having made several clean overtakes and scoring valuable points for both himself and the team.
Meanwhile, Javier Ripoll Jr., who piloted the second EST1 Porsche, was unfortunate to end Race 1 in the gravel after showing promising speed, finishing 17th. In Race 2, however, he bounced back with a clean drive to finish second in class, adding another trophy to the team’s tally.
In the overall standings, Reimann now sits fifth with 59 points after five rounds and ten races. The season finale will take place at Monza on 20th October.
